A suspect who ran from California Highway Patrol officers after crashing into the concrete and metal barriers near the gas pump of a gas station in the Palms area of Los Angeles was in custody Friday morning.
Surveillance video of the crash showed the vehicle slamming into the barriers of a Shell gas station in the 3000 block of Robertson Boulevard, just north of the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway, narrowly avoiding a gas pump just a few feet away. The driver exited the vehicle and ran off with CHP officers in pursuit.
The suspect was captured about 11:45 p.m. Thursday a short distance away from the gas station, the CHP said.
According to media reports, the vehicle was being pursued by officers prior to the crash at the gas station and also hit another car, but the CHP could not immediately confirm either of those reports.
A passenger in the vehicle that crashed suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, NBC4 reported.
