Wooden railroad ties caught fire Tuesday morning in Commerce, sending flames and smoke shooting into the sky and prompting evacuations of nearby residents.

The fire was first reported about 3:30 a.m. near Ferguson Drive and Burrard Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Residents were evacuated from homes near the fire as a precaution.

Metrolink San Bernardino Line train 303 was being held at the Baldwin Park station due to firefighters working to extinguish the fire near the tracks.

No injuries were reported.
