A pedestrian was hospitalized with brain bleeding Saturday after she was struck by a vehicle while walking on a Riverside street, authorities said.

The crash occurred just after 6 p.m. on La Sierra Avenue just south of Cypress Avenue, Riverside police Lt. Mike Crawford said.

The woman, believed in her 30s or 40s, was taken to a hospital and her condition was not available, Crawford said.

The driver stopped to call for help and assist police and it did not appear the driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol, the lieutenant said.

All southbound lanes of La Sierra Avenue at Cypress Avenue were closed to traffic during the police investigation, he said. Northbound lanes were open.
