Beverly Hills police spent about three hours Saturday searching before arresting an armed robbery suspect who left one handgun behind but carried another, authorities said.

The robbery occurred about 5:35 p.m. in the 300 block of North Canon Drive, between Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards, said Beverly Hills police Sgt. T. West.

The suspect, described as a man in his 20s, displayed a handgun and demanded property from a man on the street, said Beverly Hills police Lt. Elizabeth Albanese.

The suspect took the man’s jewelry and ran, firing at least one shot, but no one was hurt, West said.

A gun was discarded and recovered.

“Officers responded to the location immediately and located the suspect inside a retail store in the 200 block of North Beverly (Boulevard),” Albanese said. “The suspect ran from police out of the rear of the store. Police secured the area and began an extensive search.”

The man was located in the 200 block of the north alley between Beverly and Canon about 8:30 p.m. and taken into custody, she said.

A second gun was recovered, West said.

The suspect’s name was withheld pending booking.
