Authorities Friday were investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a big rig on state Route 79 in an unincorporated area near Temecula.

The crash occurred about 6:30 p.m. Thursday north of Anza Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 34-year-old Hemet man on a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle was southbound on the highway when he veered into the northbound lane while handling a curve and collided with the front end of an oncoming big rig, CHP officials said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified him as Jason Dreyer.

The driver of the truck, Francisco Barcenas, 48, of Escondo was uninjured.

CHP investigators said they believed alcohol was a factor in the crash, but no arrests were made.

Lanes near the crash site were closed for two-and-a-half hours, but reopened late Thursday night.
