A SWAT team was called in Wednesday evening to help end a standoff outside Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego with an armed bank robbery suspect who led authorities on a pursuit from Riverside County to San Diego County.
The suspect robbed a bank in Riverside County at about 7 p.m. and fled the scene, officials said. Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputies located the suspect, who did not stop, and a pursuit started on the Armed Forces (215) Freeway, according to media reports.
At 10:10 p.m., the San Diego Police Department tweeted that its SWAT team was involved and civilians were asked to avoid the area around the hospital, located at 3020 Children’s Way.
“Occupants of Children’s Hospital (Emergency Room) who are NOT in a safe location should SHELTER IN PLACE & call 911 and provide their location for assistance,” police said.
