All lanes of Crenshaw Boulevard between the Torrance Crossroads shopping center and Skypark Drive in Torrance reopened Thursday morning, more than four hours after a deadly crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian.
The accident in the 24200 block of Crenshaw Boulevard, near Lomita Boulevard, was reported about 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to Sgt. Alexander Martinez of the Torrance Police Department.
A preliminary investigation determined the driver of a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, identified only as a 55-year-old resident of Torrance, was traveling northbound on Crenshaw Boulevard when his vehicle struck a pedestrian walking east across Crenshaw Boulevard, Martinez said. It was unclear if the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.
The pedestrian was treated at the scene by Torrance Fire Department paramedics, but died from his injuries, Martinez said.
Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be factors in the crash and no arrest was immediately reported. The driver of the Jeep was not injured, Martinez said. The name of the victim was not disclosed.
All lanes of Crenshaw Boulevard between the Torrance Crossroads shopping center and Skypark Drive were closed shortly after the accident and reopened about 12:30 a.m.
