A man who was shot while trying to break in to a home in Brea is hospitalized Monday, police said.
He underwent surgery for a single gunshot wound to the chest Sunday and is expected to survive, according to Brea police Sgt. Chris Haddad.
Officers were dispatched at 7:38 a.m. Sunday in response to a report that a man had been shot by a resident while attempting to break into a home in the 200 block of South Laurel Avenue, police said.
The victim was shot by the homeowner, Haddad said, adding that he was unaware of any efforts to pursue charges against the shooter.
