The air traffic control tower at John Wayne Airport in Orange County was closed Friday due to a suspected case of coronavirus.
The Federal Aviation Administration advised John Wayne Airport officials that the air traffic controller is “unconfirmed but presumed positive for COVID-19,” said Deanne Thompson, a spokeswoman for the airport.
“Out of precaution, the FAA tower at John Wayne Airport is closed, and the FAA will handle all air traffic through a regional control center,” Thompson said.
The general aviation runaway at the airport was closed, but the commercial runway was still open, she said.
Passengers were urged to check with their airlines to confirm flight status.
