A man was struck and killed Saturday in Alhambra by a motorist who stayed at the scene of the incident, a police sergeant said.
The driver and several witnesses said the pedestrian stepped off the east Garfield Avenue curb at Shorb Street without yielding to oncoming northbound traffic and was struck by a vehicle, Alhambra Police Sgt. Steven Carr said.
The victim was believed to be approximately 40 years old and a resident of Alhambra, Carr said.
Police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 7:50 a.m. and paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, he said.
“There was no evidence of drug and/or alcohol use by the driver, and drug and/or alcohol use on the part of the pedestrian is under investigation,” Carr said.
