A 56-year-old man sustained a brain bleed, collapsed lung and several rib fractures in a hit-and-run while crossing a street Tuesday evening in the Teralta West area of San Diego.

The victim, who has not been identified, was walking south in a crosswalk at the intersection of Copeland Avenue and El Cajon Boulevard about 7 p.m., according to a San Diego Police Department sergeant whose name was not available.

A driver in a white, older-model Ford Expedition drove through a red light and struck the man, then fled westbound toward Interstate 15, the sergeant said.

The victim was taken to a hospital, and his condition was not released.

The collision was captured by nearby businesses surveillance cameras, but a further description of the suspect or the suspect’s vehicle was not released.
