A man was stabbed in Hawthorne Saturday morning and later died at a hospital and a suspect was detained.

The stabbing occurred at 12:30 a.m. in the 4400 block of West 129th Street, near Hawthorne Boulevard, according to Deputy Marvin Crowder of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which was assisting Hawthorne police with the investigation.

Detectives have learned Hawthorne police officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call and when they arrived at the location they immediately detained a suspect and found the victim, who was suffering from a stab wound to the upper body, sheriff’s Sgt. Edmo Luna said.

The suspect was being questioned by detectives, Luna said.

The name of the victim was not disclosed.
