Newport Beach police officers and family will hold a memorial procession Monday to honor a detective and department veteran who died following a two-year battle with cancer.

Detective Jon Jarema died Saturday at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach police officials said.

The 10 a.m. procession will start at the hospital and end at Pacific View Mortuary and Memorial Park, officials said. It is a journey of more than 5 miles and there could be moderate traffic delays.

The procession will move eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway to Jamboree Road, northbound Jamboree Road to eastbound San Joaquin Hills Road, eastbound San Joaquin Hills Road to northbound San Miguel Drive and northbound on San Miguel Drive to eastbound Pacific View Drive.

Jarema was a 12-year veteran of the Newport Beach police department who served as a patrol officer, SWAT team member and detective.
