Felony charges are expected to be filed Tuesday against a 20-year-old Riverside man suspected of fatally stabbing a neighbor.
Dayton McClain Pompa was arrested Thursday night and booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of murder. He’s being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
The alleged attack happened shortly after 4 p.m. that day in the 3800 block of Roblynn Street, near Shelby Drive, according to Riverside police Officer Ryan Railsback.
The officer alleged that Pompa and 30-year-old Joel Jose Carrillo got into a confrontation for unspecified reasons, and during the dispute, the suspect pulled a knife and stabbed Carrillo in the chest.
“The suspect fled to his residence around the corner … but returned to the scene and waited for police to arrive,” the police spokesman said.
Patrol officers and paramedics found the victim laying outside his home, suffering from a wound to the chest, according to Railsback.
“They immediately began lifesaving measures,” he said. “Unfortunately, the victim died at the scene.”
Homicide detectives were summoned and questioned Pompa, as well as witnesses, for several hours before ultimately arresting the suspect.
The case has since been submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Pompa has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County.
