A $50,000 reward was offered for information leading to the arrest of the driver of a Scion xB who fled the scene after striking and killing a man identified Monday as a transient.
The victim was Byern Smith, 51, coroner’s Investigator Kelsie Weber said.
The crash occurred about 1:50 a.m. Thursday in the 1600 block of East Seventh Street, according to traffic investigators.
Surveillance video showed a white, 2004-2006 Scion xB struck Smith as he pushed a cart on the side of the street and that a blue or gray full size van appeared to be following the Scion, police said.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner said.
