The parents of a YouTube star who was killed in a traffic accident while a passenger in a car that crashed into a tree earlier this month filed civil court papers against the driver of the vehicle, a former reality show cast member.
Simon La Barrie and Lissa Burton, the father and mother of Corey La Barrie, brought the still unofficial lawsuit Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court against Daniel Joseph Silva and Daniel Silva Tattoos LLC. A representative for Silva could not be immediately reached for comment. The parents seek unspecified damages.
Silva’s 2020 McLaren 600 LT crashed into a tree about 9:40 p.m. May 10 at Huston Street and Carpenter Avenue in Valley Village, killing the 25-year-old La Barrie, according to police.
Police said Silva left the vehicle and tried to flee, but was stopped by citizens who came to render aid.
The 26-year-old Silva, a former cast member on the reality show “Ink Master,” was arrested May 11 and pleaded not guilty Wednesday to one count of murder in Van Nuys Superior Court. If convicted, Silva faces up to 15 years to life in state prison.
La Barrie’s parents allege in their court papers that Silva was driving at “an extremely high speed” and that the North Hollywood resident failed to use reasonable care while driving the sports car. The plaintiffs further allege that Silva was drunk at the time and had a previous drunken driving condition, making him aware of the dangers of driving in such a condition.
The plaintiffs further say Daniel Silva Tattoos provided the alcohol the defendant consumed that night.
La Barrie’s parents have been forced to pay for burial and funeral expenses for their son and have lost his love, companionship and financial support, according to the plaintiffs.
