A 70-year-old woman riding a bicycle was struck and killed Monday morning in a crash with a vehicle in the area of Portola Parkway and State Route 261 in Irvine, according to the Orange County Fire Authority and Irvine police.
The woman was hit by a gray Mercedes ML350, authorities said. The Mercedes driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
The crash occurred about 10 a.m., according to an OCFA and Irvine police.
The bicyclist was pronounced dead on site. Her name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Portola Parkway was closed for several hours from Forge to the 261 toll road, Irvine police said. Portola Parkway was fully reopened around 4 p.m., Irvine police said.
