Police harmlessly shot at a man who had been barricaded inside a North Hollywood apartment after he fired a crossbow at them, hitting one officer with an arrow, authorities said Monday.

Officers went to the 5100 block of Bakman Avenue about 9:35 p.m. Sunday on a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, and a standoff ensued with the suspect, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

At about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, SWAT officers were evacuating the building when “the suspect exited and fired a crossbow at officers,” according to LAPD Lt. Chris Ramirez of the media relations office.

Officers fired their weapons at the suspect, who was not wounded, and took him into custody, Ramirez said. His name was not immediately released.

“One officer was struck by the arrow fired by the suspect and was taken to a local hospital where he received medical treatment and was later released,” an LAPD statement said.
