Authorities Thursday identified two young girls who investigators say were killed at their home in Watts by their father, who then shot himself.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics were sent to the 9200 block of Success Avenue about 8:15 a.m. Wednesday on a report of a shooting .

Angelica Vargas, 6, and Amanda Vargas, 4, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s office. Their father, whose name has not been released, died at a hospital, police said.

“Our investigation has revealed that the tragedy here today appears to be a murder-suicide with three members of a family deceased,” Lt. Kerri Potter of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Juvenile Division told reporters at the scene.

“This is a time when I would say that anyone who is a victim or is aware of any victims of domestic violence or child abuse — you know, realizing that there’s still a lot of families that are indoors because of COVID — anyone who’s a witness or a victim please reach out to the police department,” Potter said.
