A carjacking Sunday in Pico Rivera led to the death of one young girl and possible injuries to a second, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and a video photographer at the scene.
The carjacking occurred in the 9000 block of Whittier Boulevard, near Lindsay Avenue, said Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez.
The young girl, whose name was withheld, died at the scene, Navarro-Suarez said.
Her manner of death was not immediately discolsed.
A video photographer told City News Service there were two children in the vehicle when the male suspect stole it. He said both children were ejected while it was being driven, but LASD has yet to confirm the report.
The photographer said the suspect was stopped by a group of people who held him until deputies arrived and took him into custody. The LASD would not immediately confirm that report either.
Anyone with information about the carjacking was asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
