Officials Sunday released the name of a 29-year-old motorist who was killed when his car slammed head-on into an ice cream truck in unincorporated Los Angeles County, near Duarte.
The victim was identified as Miguel Colon Gonzalez of Duarte, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
Gonzalez was speeding in a 1997 Honda southbound on Shamrock Avenue, south of Hurstview Avenue, as an ice cream truck — a 1988 Chevrolet — was going northbound on Shamrock at approximately 10 miles per hour, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Shamrock Avenue is a residential street with an undivided roadway, according to the CHP, and Gonzalez failed to stop, colliding head-on with the ice cream truck.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the ice cream truck, a 61-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Both men were determined to have been wearing seatbelts, according to the CHP.
Anyone with information about the collision was asked to call Officer Mike Cazares at the CHP at 626-338-1164.
