Sheriff’s detectives were Saturday on the lookout for an 85-year-old man who may have Alzheimer’s disease and drove away from home but abandoned his pickup truck.

Theodore Anthony Melendrez was most recently seen at about 6 a.m. last Sunday driving a red 2001 Nissan Frontier in he 45000 block of Challenger Way, according to Deputy Erin Ortiz of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Melendrez’s truck was found abandoned around 90th Street East and Avenue L-8 in Lancaster.

“Mr. Melendrez’s loved ones have not seen or heard from him. They are very concerned and asking for the public’s help,” Ortiz said.

He is Hispanic, 5-feet-10 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown eyes, short gray hair, a moustache and a big scar on his left shin, she said. There is no description of his clothing but he frequently wears a black hat with “Korea Vet” on it.
