A nude woman who ran into traffic was struck and severely injured Thursday, according to the Hemet Police Department.
The woman was hit about 5:30 a.m. on Florida Avenue, near Myers Street, police said.
Lt. Eric Dickson said that the victim, whose identity was not disclosed, had been alternately standing or walking on Florida near California Road just prior to the impact, prompting calls to 911.
A motorist headed eastbound on Florida was approaching Myers when the woman abruptly “ran south across Florida in front of the oncoming vehicle,” Dickson said.
The victim was hit and hurled an unspecified distance onto the roadway.
According to the lieutenant, the driver immediately stopped and called emergency services.
The woman was taken to an Inland Empire trauma center with life-threatening injuries and remains in grave condition, Dickson said.
“Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be a factor on the part of the driver of the vehicle,” he said.
Florida was closed between Meyers and Warren Road for about four hours while a preliminary investigation was conducted.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the police department at 951-765-2400.
