A probationer was behind bars Thursday on suspicion of killing a man whose body was found in an illegal internet cafe in Anaheim nearly four months ago.
Lionel Raphael Cruz, 41, of Santa Ana, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in the 2400 block of Tustin Avenue in Santa Ana, said Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer.
Cruz is accused in the death of 33-year-old Gabriel Shaun Garcia of Anaheim, Carringer said. Officers responded about 2:15 a.m. June 20 to 926 S. Magnolia Ave. to investigate a shooting in an illegal Internet cafe and found Garcia, who had been dead for about a day by that point, the sergeant said.
Police have declined to discuss a motive for the killing and what led them to Cruz, who was out on bail on pending felony charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm.
While out on bail in that case, the defendant failed to report to probation officials, according to a probation revocation petition.
When a probation officer contacted him at his residence, a 13-inch cleaver and an 8-inch blade were found in a dresser drawer “which was filled with his daughter’s toddler shoes,” and he was arrested again, according to the petition.
