An inmate in Sana Ana’s jail was found dead in his cell early Wednesday.
During a routine welfare check, the inmate, whose name was not immediately released, was found alone in his cell dead just before 1:40 a.m., Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.
Jail staffers attempted to revive the man, but were unable to do so and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 2:15 a.m., Bertagna said.
Orange County District Attorney’s Office prosecutors will investigate the cause of death, which is routine in jail fatalities.
