Firefighters were battling a second-alarm fire at an abandoned theater in Old Town Indio Saturday.
The blaze was reported at 7:08 a.m. in the 42500 block of Fargo Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Firefighters reported that the theater was well involved with fire when they arrived at the scene.
The Indio Police Department said Fargo Street between Civic Center Drive and Indio Boulevard would remain closed for four to six hours as fire crews work to extinguish the flames.
Authorities said there may also be intermittent closures of other surrounding streets as needed and asked the public to avoid the area.
