A person was killed this evening on the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway in South Los Angeles.
The incident was reported at 8:08 p.m. near Western Avenue, according to Officer Tony Polizzi of the California Highway Patrol.
An initial report indicated a vehicle hit a pedestrian, but Polizzi could not confirm until officers completed the investigation.
The victim, whose name was not released, was dead when CHP officers and Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters arrived on the scene, Polizzi said. Information about the victim was not immediately available.
Two lanes of the freeway were closed at Normandie Avenue, according to the CHP, which issued a SigAlert.
