A man in his 30s was shot and killed during an attempted robbery in the parking lot of the Baldwin Hills Target store Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called about 3:20 p.m. to the store at 3535 S. La Cienega Blvd., near Obama Boulevard, where they said two people were shot at in a vehicle, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A male walked up to the vehicle and attempted to rob the victim, then shot at him “several times,” said Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The two occupants were getting into a white Mazda, and the passenger was struck, CBS2 reported.

The victim died at a hospital, Lopez said. His name was not immediately released.

The suspect, who fled the scene on foot, has not been identified by police.
