Torrance police will be on the lookout this weekend for motorists who get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Between 6 p.m. and 3:30 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday, more officers than usual will be out conducting DUI enforcement patrols.

“This pandemic is impacting all of us in difficult ways,” Sgt. David Koenig said. “We want everyone to be as safe as possible, especially when they are on the road.”

Lt. Cody Charley warned that prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs can impair drivers, and reminded the public that driving while under the influence of medical or recreational marijuana is illegal.

“If you plan on drinking or taking medications that may impact your ability to drive safely, plan on staying at home,” Charley said.
