A driver was ejected from a vehicle in a two-car crash that left two people with major injuries on Christmas Day, police said Saturday.

The collision occurred at about 2:50 p.m. Friday when a 1996 Honda Civic ran a stop sign at Victoria Avenue and 11th Street and smashed into a northbound 2011 Dodge Challenger, according to the Riverside City Police Department.

The force of the impact caused the driver of the Honda, a 23-year-old Riverside resident, to be ejected, resulting in major injuries, Sgt. Matt Lewis said.

A passenger in the Honda also suffered major injuries. Both the driver and passenger are expected to survive, Lewis said.

It was unclear if any injuries were sustained by the driver of the Dodge, a 31 year-old Riverside resident.

The crash remained under investigation.
