Two men were arrested in a Christmas Day shooting that injured a 35-year-old man in Pasadena, authorities said Wednesday.
Alberto Esparza, 26, and Victor Zamora Macias, 33, were charged Tuesday by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with one count each of attempted murder, according to the Pasadena Police Department.
The men were accused in a shooting that took place on Christmas Day in an alley near Wheeler Lane and Hammond Street, close to Fair Oaks Avenue.
Police who were called to reports of shots fired near the alley found the victim, suffering from at least three gunshot wounds, at a nearby fire station at Fair Oaks Avenue and Hammond Street, the department said.
The man was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
“Preliminarily, it was learned the victim had walked into the alley moments before being shot by the suspect(s),” the department said.
“During their investigation, detectives established several investigative leads and through their diligent efforts, were able to identify persons of interest who were likely responsible for the shooting.”
Arrest warrants were issued for Esparza and Zamora Macias, and they were taken into custody Thursday, according to police and jail records.
Search warrants also recovered “additional items of evidentiary value… which connected two individuals to the shooting,” the department said.
Esparza is being held on $1.5 million bail and Zamora Macias on $2 million bail, records show.
