A man was fatally injured and two other people were in critical condition after a vehicle-towing crash in the South Los Angeles area, authorities said Friday.

The crash was reported at 11:44 p.m. Thursday at Central Avenue and East 55th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Information was not immediately available on the identity of the fatally injured man, who died at the scene.

According to CBS2, a motorist in an SUV was towing another SUV by using a rope, which broke. When the male drivers of the first two vehicles got out to see what happened, a third vehicle slammed into the rear SUV, pinning both men between their vehicles.

One man died at the scene and the second man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, as was the driver of the third vehicle, Channel 2 reported. The gender of the third vehicle’s driver was not immediately known.
