A 27-year-old Los Angeles man died when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Pacific Coast Highway near Pacific Palisades, authorities said Monday.
The crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. Sunday at Porto Marina Way, according to Officer Lezeth Lomelli of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.
The vehicle was northbound on PCH south of Porto Marina Way when the pedestrian was crossing outside of the crosswalk, Lomelli said. The driver swerved to avoid the man but still hit him, she said.
The vehicle continued swerving into southbound lanes and down an embankment onto the beach, Lomelli said.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, she said. His name was withheld pending notification of relatives. The vehicle’s driver and passenger were both injured.
California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert that shut down PCH through early Monday morning between Porto Marina Way and Temescal Canyon Road.
