A 19-year-old was charged Tuesday with breaking his 17-year-old girlfriend’s jaw in a scuffle in Orange and videotaping himself having sex with her and then sending the video to others.
Edward Simon Martinez was charged with single counts each of corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, false imprisonment, distribution of obscene matter with subjects younger than 18 engaging in sex, attempting to prevent a victim from prosecuting, and two counts of criminal threats, all felonies.
Martinez is also charged with misdemeanor counts of unlawful sexual intercourse and disorderly conduct with the unlawful dissemination of private photographs and recordings.
Martinez is accused of beating up the victim, breaking her jaw in the process on May 16, 2020, according to Sgt. Phil McMullin of the Orange Police Department. He allegedly sent the videotape of the sexual activity on Dec. 15 and allegedly threatened the victim on Dec. 5 and Dec. 14, according to court records.
Martinez allegedly threatened the victim on Dec. 20 not to prosecute, according to court records.
Martinez’s arraignment on Tuesday was rescheduled for March 4 in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana.
