Riverside County sheriff’s investigators are asking for the public’s help confirming where a young man might have been prior to when he was found dead in Canyon Lake.
The remains of Jason Eilola Coye, 19, of Murrieta were found about 5 p.m. on March 14 floating in the lake, near the intersection of Old Wrangler Road and Vacation Drive.
Witnesses called 911, and patrol deputies reached the location minutes later, pulling Coye’s lifeless body out of the water, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Adam Heard.
He said the death initially appeared suspicious, but detectives have since concluded that Coye was not a victim of foul play. However, how and why he ended up in the lake remains unclear, and detectives are trying to piece together his final hours, according to Heard, who did not disclose the autopsy results.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Lake Elsinore station at 951-245-3300.
