A 44-year-old Yorba Linda woman pleaded guilty Monday and was immediately sentenced to 11 years in prison for slamming a wine bottle over her mother’s head, leaving her battling for her life in a hospital.
The victim was helping Kathleen Marie Gallagher-Hilliard move out of her Yorba Linda apartment on Nov. 1 so she could move in with her mother when the two got into a dispute, said Orange County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Dennis Breckner.
Gallagher-Hilliard at some point felt her mother was threatening her life so she slammed a wine bottle over the victim’s head, sending the victim to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, Breckner said.
Gallagher-Hilliard pleaded guilty to single felony counts each of attempted murder, inflicting injury on an elder adult and assault with a deadly weapon. She also admitted sentencing enhancements for causing great bodily injury on an elder as well as the personal use of a deadly weapon.
Gallagher-Hilliard was given credit for 179 days in custody.
