A 24-year-old man accused of leading police on a vehicle chase prior to hiding out in a dumpster in Palm Springs was free Thursday on $5,000 bail.
Trevon Rasheed Farmer of Cathedral City was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio Wednesday on suspicion of resisting arrest and evading a peace officer.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Farmer about 8:30 p.m. in the 500 block of South Palm Canyon Drive and determined he had a warrant out for his arrest, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.
As officers were approaching the vehicle, Farmer allegedly sped off, triggering a brief vehicle pursuit that ended when officers lost sight of him, police said.
His vehicle was located a short while later unoccupied. Officers found him hiding in a nearby dumpster with the help of witnesses, police said, and he eventually surrendered.
Farmer had an active warrant out for his arrest stemming from a misdemeanor case involving spousal abuse, vandalism and child endangerment charges, court records show.
Farmer is scheduled to appear at the Larson Justice Center in Indio on Aug. 10, according to jail records.
