A person was killed in a traffic crash Saturday on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Sun Valley.

The crash on the southbound freeway, at Sunland Boulevard, occurred at about 11:55 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the location at 11:56 a.m., where they extricated a victim from the wreckage, who was eventually pronounced dead at the scene, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

The crash possibly involved a gray van slamming into a tree, which was uprooted, the CHP said.

A Sigalert was issued at 12:12 p.m. closing the numbers three and four lanes of the southbound freeway for at least two hours, the CHP said.

There was no other immediate information.
