A Fontana man suspected of driving while intoxicated and causing a six-vehicle crash on the Riverside (91) Freeway in Corona that killed a women and critically injured a man remained behind bars Sunday.

The crash was reported at 5:53 p.m. Saturday on the eastbound side of the freeway west of Main Street.

The California Highway Patrol said a man was speeding and driving erratically in a Ford Windstar minivan before he slammed into the back of a Chrysler Voyager, causing a chain-reaction crash.

The force of the impact sent the Voyager spinning out of control and ejected a man and woman who were sitting in the Voyager’s front seats, the CHP said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and later identified as Joan McKee, 71, of Huntington Beach, according to the Riverside County coroner’s office.

The man suffered serious injuries and remained hospitalized.

The driver of the Windstar, Adrian Antonio, 41, and another person were also taken to a hospital with minor injuries, the CHP said.

Antonio was arrested upon his release from the hospital and booked into the Southwest Detention Center on suspicion of murder and driving while intoxicated.

He remained behind bars without bail.
