A man hanging off a Santa Ana (5) Freeway overpass held up traffic for 11 1/2 hours Wednesday before finally agreeing to come down, authorities said.
Officers went to the area south of Lincoln Avenue about 3 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The northbound freeway was closed as a precaution at Euclid Street, and authorities later closed the southbound side, as well.
About 6:30 a.m., the northbound lanes were reopened, but the southbound lanes near Euclid Avenue remained blocked except for the HOV lane, which was reopened about 11 a.m., CHP Officer Monica Posada said.
Anaheim police managed to talk the man down about 1:45 p.m., Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer said.
He said the man, who had managed to climb onto fencing over the bridge overpass at Santa Ana Street, was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
