A 19-year-old man was arrested and remained jailed Monday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and another injured in Jurupa Valley.

Deputies responded around 10 p.m. Saturday to a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon in the 4900 block of Rutile Street, a residential neighborhood a few blocks northwest of Van Buren Elementary School, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

When deputies arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds, Sgt. Rick Espinoza said.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene and was identified as Manuel Villaman, 22, of Jurupa Valley, Espinoza said.

The other man was taken to a hospital, though his condition was not disclosed.

The next day, Gael Cazares, 19, of Jurupa Valley, was arrested in the 5900 block of Troth Street, about a mile and a half from where the shooting occurred, authorities said.

He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center and was being held without bail.
