A man in his 60s was apparently strangled in Compton Saturday morning, and authorities hunted the killer.

Deputies and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded at 12:50 a.m. to a call of a person down in the area of South Gibson Avenue and East Rose Street and located the victim, who was suffering from an apparent strangulation, according to Deputy Michelle Sanchez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Sanchez said.

Earlier reports said the man had been stabbed to death.

A motive for the strangling or description of a suspect were not available.

The name of the victim was not disclosed.
