Police Monday tracked down a potential witness to the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy in Anaheim.
Police were successful in finding the witness after they released a surveillance photo of a pickup truck towing a small trailer in the vicinity of the attack. They correctly hoped that making the photo public would help investigators locate the driver.
They believed the driver may have been a witness to the Sunday morning shooting, said Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer.
The victim — Johnny Avalos of Anaheim — was gunned down in the 2200 block of West Colchester Drive about 12:15 a.m. Sunday, Carringer said.
Police suspect it was a gang-related shooting, but did not specify why they were drawing that conclusion.
Avalos was pronounced dead at the scene, Carringer said.
No other details about the killing were released.
