A man suspected of hit-and-run was taken into custody after leading police on a nearly half-hour pursuit in Covina Thursday evening.

Police began pursing a white Volkswagen sedan at about 6:30 p.m. and followed it at slow speeds to North Prospero Drive, CBS2 reported.

The man drove in circles around what appeared to be an apartment complex in the area, allowing police to successfully deploy spike strips to deflate the car’s tires.

The man eventually turned onto a major street, where police performed a PIT maneuver on the car and sent it into a curb.

The car came to a stop near the middle of the street. The man got out of the car just before 7 p.m. and ran a short distance to a gas station near East San Bernardino Road and North Grand Avenue where he was taken into custody.
