Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced Friday that Sharon Woo — who served in his administration in San Francisco while he was the county’s top prosecutor there — has been appointed as his chief deputy district attorney.
Sharon Woo will assist Gascón with the day-to-day operations of the nation’s largest local prosecutorial office.
Woo was the chief deputy of the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office for eight years, and previously had served as chief of the office’s criminal division, as an assistant district attorney prosecuting community violence and as a managing attorney who led the narcotics and domestic violence trial teams.
She subsequently was the chief of operations for the San Francisco Department of Police Accountability.
In a statement, Gascón, who took office in December, said Woo will “help me realize the criminal justice reforms that I promised voters” and called her an “accomplished attorney with a proven record of leading change.”
Joseph Iniguez, who served as the interim chief, will “continue to play a vital role in my administration in his next executive management assignment,” the district attorney said.
