A pedestrian was killed early Wednesday after being struck by an unmarked Department of Homeland Security vehicle on the Golden State (5) Freeway at Hyperion Avenue in Silver Lake, the California Highway Patrol said.
CHP officers were called at 2:15 a.m. and found the fatal collision, CHP Officer Patrick Kimball told City News Service.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, Kimball said.
The driver was a Homeland Security officer and remained at the scene, according to Kimball. It was not immediately known if the DHS officer was on duty, according to Kimball.
Another vehicle was also involved, but it was not immediately known to what extent, Kimball said.
No vehicle descriptions were available, and the cause of the collision is under investigation.
The collision caused the closure of several lanes of the freeway.
