A man was in custody and being questioned Wednesday for allegedly making a bomb threat targeting the Northridge Fashion Center, prompting a police search of the mall.

The man was taken into custody about 12:50 p.m., according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im. The suspect’s name was not immediately released.

Shirley Avenue was closed north of Nordhoff Street near the southwest corner of the mall property while the LAPD assessed the threat.

Officers searched the man’s belongings, but found no trace of a threat and cleared the mall at about 4:40 p.m., said Officer Mike Lopez

The man was being questioned, but the LAPD had not decided whether to arrest him, Lopez said.
