A 58-year-old man was found dead Saturday inside a Cathedral City house that was engulfed in flames.
The fire was reported at 2:49 a.m. in the 32600 block of Sky Blue Water Trail, according to Cathedral City police Officer Andrew Diaz.
Cathedral City police arrived at the scene before firefighters and found the house fully engulfed in flames.
“One occupant of the home was outside the structure and advised his roommate was still inside the house,” Diaz said. “Officers jumped a fence in attempt to gain access into the house through a back door but were unable to make entry into the home due to the excessive heat and smoke.”
Firefighters located Kyle Humphrey inside the house and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Diaz said.
Arson investigators from the Cathedral City police and fire departments were investigating the cause of the fire, he said.
