A suspect who allegedly pointed a rifle at Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies while barricaded in a vehicle in Lancaster, prompting the deputies to open fire, was hospitalized in critical condition Thursday.
At 9:32 p.m. Wednesday, deputies went to the 500 block of West Avenue J-12 in response to a report of a criminal threats suspect sitting in front of the victim’s location, according to Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
When deputies tried to contact the suspect they noticed he was holding a rifle, Koerner said. He then became uncooperative, barricaded himself inside the vehicle for about 90 minutes as deputies tried to coax him out, according to Koerner.
During the negotiation, at approximately 11:10 p.m., the suspect allegedly pointed the rifle at the deputies, who opened fire.
No deputies were injured and a rifle was recovered at the scene. The suspect’s name was not immediately released.
