A man who took a person hostage inside a downtown Los Angeles high-rise apartment was shot by police Friday.

Los Angeles Police Department officers responded at about 4:10 p.m. to the apartment located in the 500 block of South Main Street on reports of a shooting, Officer Tony Im told the Los Angeles Times.

The suspect barricaded himself and the hostage inside the apartment and SWAT officers were called to the scene as support.

Video taken by a Twitter user who was in a building near the high-rise showed the man holding a gun to the hostage’s head and dragging them to different areas of the apartment before several police officers equipped with tactical gear entered the room. Several gunshots are heard before the video ends.

ABC7 reported the suspect was killed in the shooting. However, Im only confirmed to The Times that the suspect was shot by police, and Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department said one person was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
